Chief Dave Miller
Dave joined the Canton Police Department in June of 2011, as the Chief of Police. Dave is a native of Fargo, ND. Dave attended high school in Fargo and college at the University of Miami. After college Dave joined the US Navy.While in the Navy, he was an aircrew member chasing subs in the Atlantic.After his tour with the Navy, Dave started his career in law enforcement. He started with the Jamestown, ND Police Department and then moved to the Fargo Police Department.Dave was a patrol officer, Field Training Officer and Department Training Officer with Fargo.He moved on to the Casselton, ND Police Department and became the Police Chief.He also served a term as President of the North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association.Dave was appointed to the North Dakota POST Board by the North Dakota Attorney General.Dave then became the Chief of Police for the Dilworth, MN Police Department and was there for thirteen years.He also served several terms as President of the Minnesota Region IV Chief’s Association.
Assistant Chief David Jacobs
David joined the Canton Police Department in 2005 and was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2008.In High School, David was a lifeguard and a member of the Minnehaha County Sherriff’s office explorers.David began his Law Enforcement career in 1994 as a Corrections Officer with the Clay County Jail.In 1997, he moved to Mobridge, SD and worked as a Corrections Officer for the Walworth County Jail.David joined the Philip Police Department in 1999 and obtained his Law Enforcement Certification in 2000.
Officer Adam Dupic
Adam joined the Canton Police Department in March of 2008. Before working for Canton, Adam worked for the South Dakota State University Police Department while attending college in Brookings. In addition to classroom studies, Adam completed a 12-week internship with the Brookings Police Department. Adam graduated from SDSU in May of 2008. He obtained his SD Law Enforcement Certification in August of 2008. Adam is a Nationally Certified Passenger Seat Technician. He was recognized as Canton's Employee of the Year for 2010 and Canton Citizen of the Year in 2011.
Officer Chris Reitsma
Chris joined the Canton Police Department in April of 2010. Before working for Canton, Chris worked at the DCI Forensic Lab in Pierre, SD from 1995 to 2007. While employed with DCI, she processed State and Federal crime scenes across SD specializing in fingerprint, shoe print, tire print, physical match, and trace evidence. She has been a Senior Certified Crime Scene Analyst with the International Association for Identification (IAI) since 2005. In 2007, she took a job as an associate professor in Criminal Justice at Colorado Technical University. Chris joined the Watertown Police Department in 2010 and attained her SD law enforcement certification after joining the Canton Police Department.
Officer Andrew Filips
Andy joined the Canton Police Department in September of 2011. Andy is a native of Crofton, NE, and after graduating high school, Andy attended the U niversity of Nebraska at Lincoln. In 2003, he joined the Nebraska Army National Guard and worked full-time with them for several years. He was deployed to Iraq in 2005 for 22 months and to Afghanistan in 2010 for a year. Andy obtained his SD Law Enforcement Certification in November of 2012. In addition to earning his certification, he was awarded the William 'Bill' Davis Top Gun Memorial Award and also the Inspiraion Award.
